      The city of Taunton, MA was founded in 1637 making it one of the oldest towns in the United States. The estimated population is 55,874 and the total land area is 46.7 square miles. Taunton is also known as the “Silver City” and was a historic center of the silver industry beginning in the 19th Century. Also known as the “Christmas City” Taunton is well known for its beautiful Taunton Green light display during the holiday season. Taunton is a city that is very rich in history which is well chronicled at Old Colony Historical Society, the city’s only museum.
